Our Background
The company was established in 1980 as a specialist engineering consultancy and marketer of turnkey projects in the energy sector, operating in New Zealand and Australia. The company name was originally ‘Gas Turbine and Power Systems Consultants Limited’, but in 2004 it was changed to ‘Exergi Consulting Limited’.
Owing to the demand for Project Finance with any proposal for large industrial installations, our operations were extended to provide financial consultancy coupled with debt and equity raising assistance.
Because of the tremendous growth in information technology and the increasing sophistication of Corporate financial management systems we responded to this demand by providing niche advice in this field (MIS), specifically in the area of predictive information for early management decision making and risk management. Coupled with this is our expertise in exergy procurement strategies.
One of our specialties is in the preparation and presentation of financial evaluations for technical projects to all levels of management. We find that our clients particularly appreciate us taking a project through from inception to finalisation and in so doing, interact with and co-ordinate the clients accountants and technical personnel, various solicitors, consulting engineers and bankers etc, allowing the client to concentrate on his core business while being provided with a complete feasibility study and full contract documentation.
More recently, New Zealand has seen some significant Energy sector changes. The Kyoto protocol (administered through the Climate Change Office), regulation through the Electricity Commission (EC) and the newly established co-regulatory Gas Industry Company (GIC) have all provided further focus for our services.
We have government sector rrelationships with the EC, GIC, NZCCO, MeD, MfE, EECA and undertake lobbying, exemptions, negotiations and policy work in these areas.
Our Philosophy
When we take on a project we commit to see it through to the agreed outcome. This commitment extends to providing one lead consultant and his/her undivided attention throughout the project consultancy.
While the consultant would often work with many other expert agencies, the ultimate responsibility to see the project through, remains with him/her alone.
Our Principals
Russell G Longuet has a Bachelor of Engineering (Elec) from Canterbury and post grad papers in economics, finance, operations research and accounting . He has a background in Engineering, Merchant Banking, Energy Management and Consulting. During his career he has worked for ABB, Kongsberg Vaarpen Fabrikken, ECNZ, Carter Holt Harvey, Energetics, Natwest Lombank, and Chase AMP in Scandinavia, Britain, Australia and New Zealand in the fields of High Voltage switchgear, Gas and Steam turbines, relay systems, power factor correction, co-generation, procurement, energy market design, corporate debt and equity provision, project finance, energy efficiency advice and risk management.
He is a Director of EECA (the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority),
a member of the Institute of Directors, and holds the IoD Certificate in
Corporate Direction. Russell has worked on a number of advisory groups to
the Energy Industry and Government, including the Gas Industry Steering Group,
the Information Disclosure Working Group, the Transport Working Group, the
Market Price Working Group and the Hedge Market Development Steering Group.
He is Managing Director of Exergi Consulting Limited.
Amelia M Longuet has an LLB, BA and is a specialist in Company law. She is a registered mentor with the Wellington Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators. During her career she has worked for Fletcher Challenge, FAS MacQuarie, Universities and more recently was a senior lawyer at the Securities Commission and previous to that was Secretary to the Takeovers Panel. Her expertise is in the fields of Company and Partnership law, Securities law, Trust management, Company Secretarial and lecturing.
Amelia is a Director of the company and specialises in the mediation side of the business and legal advisory services.
